Manuel Akanji has completed a surprise loan switch from Manchester City to Inter Milan, calling the Nerazzurri “the biggest club in Italy” — www.naijnaira.com reports.
The Swiss centre-back joined on deadline day and gave his first words to Inter’s media team after sealing the move.
According to Football Italia, Akanji said it was an easy choice because Inter have shown their strength in Europe in recent years.
“I believe Inter is the biggest club in Italy and one of the best in the world,” he explained.
The versatile defender underlined his ability to adapt across the backline, saying he is comfortable in a three-man defence and willing to fit into whatever role the coach assigns him.
Akanji has already tasted the Champions League Final, having been in Manchester City’s squad when they defeated Inter in Istanbul in 2023.
He admitted he wants to be on the other side this time, adding: “Inter is capable of reaching another Final, and hopefully we can win it.”
The former Basel and Borussia Dortmund player said he is eager to experience Serie A, noting that it offers a different style compared to both the Premier League and Bundesliga.
He also looks forward to reuniting with his Swiss teammate Yann Sommer, who had already texted him to offer support before his arrival in Milan.
Inter were among Serie A’s highest spenders this summer, ranking just behind Milan, Juventus, Atalanta, Napoli, and Como in transfer outlay.
