Allies of Nyesom Wike have outlined tough conditions that must be met before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) holds its much-anticipated National Convention – www.naijnaira.com reports.
During a closed-door meeting in Abuja, the Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP demanded that the zoning arrangement of the 2021 convention remain untouched.
Leadership News reports that the group insisted the office of the National Chairman should stay in the North-Central, stressing that any attempt to alter that balance would create fresh internal conflict.
The meeting, chaired by former Benue State governor Samuel Ortom, also pushed for fresh congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra, alongside a new zonal congress for the South-East.
Stakeholders further called on the party to immediately conduct local government congresses in Ekiti State in line with subsisting court judgments.
They demanded that the outcome of the February 22, 2025, South-South congress in Calabar, already validated by the court, be respected without alteration.
In their communique, the group declared, “A credible National Convention must be anchored on transparency, fairness, and respect for the rule of law as well as inclusivity.”
Wike, alongside Ortom, Okezie Ikpeazu, Ayo Fayose, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, attended the Abuja meeting.
Also present were serving and former members of the National Assembly, party vice chairmen, and state chairmen from Abia, Benue, Rivers, Cross River, and others.
They warned that failure to honor their resolutions would make the convention “invalid,” as loyal members would be unfairly sidelined.
The PDP leaders emphasized that the opposition party was founded on fairness and inclusivity, urging the National Working Committee to protect those principles as the party prepares for its next phase.
