During the 94th Academy Awards ceremony, actor Will Smith stormed the stage after comedian Chris Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has alopecia.
In his Netflix special Chris Rock: Selective Outrage, Rock addressed why he didn’t hit Smith back and attributed it to being raised by his parents to not fight in front of white people.
He also took jabs at Pinkett Smith for allegedly initiating their feud, claiming that she once tried to force him to quit hosting the Oscars in 2016 because her husband wasn’t nominated for Best Actor.
Despite this drama, Rock continued to root for Will Smith and even joked about watching him get whipped in the 2021 drama Emancipation.
Following another Oscars ceremony where Smith won Best Actor for his role in King Richard, he was banned as a member of the Academy for 10 years and will be unable to attend the 2023 ceremony.
