In a surprising turn of events, Thomas Tuchel has agreed to part ways with Bayern Munich at the end of the season. The Bundesliga giants have been experiencing a slump in results and performances recently, which has put pressure on the German coach.
Losses to Bayer Leverkusen and Bochum in the Bundesliga have allowed Alonso’s Leverkusen side to take an eight-point lead at the top of the standings.
Adding to their woes, Bayern Munich also suffered a 1-0 defeat to Lazio in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.
This loss marks the third consecutive defeat for Tuchel’s side. In response to these setbacks, Bayern has released a statement confirming Tuchel’s impending departure.
Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen stated, “In an open and constructive conversation, we have mutually agreed to end our collaboration in the summer. Our aim is to undergo a sporting realignment with a new coach for the 2024/25 season.”
Dreesen further emphasized the team’s responsibility and the importance of achieving the maximum possible in both the Champions League and the Bundesliga.
As speculation about Tuchel’s replacement grows, Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has emerged as the “absolute top candidate” for the job, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.
