Thomas Tuchel has signed an 18-month contract to take over as England‘s head coach, with his tenure officially starting on January 1, 2025.
The Football Association (FA) initiated talks with Tuchel after exploring other options, including Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola.
Tuchel will succeed Gareth Southgate, who stepped down after England’s loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.
He will become the third non-English manager for the national team, joining Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
Until Tuchel’s start date, Lee Carsley will continue as interim manager during the upcoming Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
Tuchel is known for his tactical acumen and success at clubs like Chelsea, where he led the team to Champions League victory in 2021, as well as top positions at Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
His familiarity with England’s star players, especially captain Harry Kane, who voiced his admiration for Tuchel, suggests a positive atmosphere for future training sessions and matches.
