According to a recent report, Maryam Shetty was withdrawn as a ministerial nominee by President Bola Tinubu because she does not belong to the political family of Abdullahi Ganduje, the current national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
It is believed that high-power politics played a role in her removal, as Ganduje’s associates stated that Shetty was replaced with Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, a former Commissioner for Higher Education in Kano state, because she was not aligned with Ganduje’s camp.
Additionally, it is said that Ganduje sought her replacement because she had been vocal against some of his policies in the past, particularly in relation to the removal of former Emir Muhammadu Sanusi.
Shetty’s popularity on social media, where she advocates for various causes including women’s rights, was also mentioned as a factor.
