US President Donald Trump is considering extending the visa ban to Nigeria and citizens from 35 additional countries as part of a possible update to current US travel restrictions.
According to The Washington Post, a draft list was detailed in a recent State Department report. The document raised concerns about countries that either struggle to issue reliable identity papers or face widespread problems with document fraud.
The memo also noted that many citizens from the listed countries have overstayed their visas after arriving in the United States. “Some countries had no competent or cooperative central government authority to produce reliable identity documents or other civil documents,” the report explained.
The proposed US travel restrictions could affect Nigeria, Angola, Ghana, Cameroon, Egypt, Syria, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and several other nations.
The Trump visa ban, if expanded, would focus on improving border security and addressing immigration challenges related to visa overstay and document reliability. The Nigeria travel ban, in particular, has become a key point of interest for many observers following this development.
Further updates are expected as discussions continue.
