Pastor Tunde Bakare, the founder of Citadel Global Community Church, says he still believes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will act in Nigeria’s best interest.
The cleric, a former presidential aspirant, shared this sentiment following a private meeting with the president at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos, according to The Nation.
Bakare described the meeting as a meaningful and respectful conversation. While he declined to disclose specific details, he confirmed the talks centered on his personal dream for a more functional and united Nigeria.
“My vision is to see a nation that works, and those things I’ve discussed with Mr President. They are not hidden things,” Pastor Bakare said.
He expressed confidence that President Tinubu has the capacity to lead the nation toward recovery, especially with divine support.
“In my life, I’ve learnt that when you discuss with the person in charge, you leave it to him to do whatsoever he wills with what you have suggested,” Bakare noted.
He added: “I have had a private conversation with Mr President, and I am glad that he received me well. I trust that God will help our nation.”
The cleric also urged Nigerians to push for national unity and strategic collaboration between regions. He said progress requires shared responsibility and clear action.
“I would like to see Nigerians being their brother’s keeper,” Bakare said. “I would like to see collaborations between the best of the North and the best of the South to steer Nigeria in the right direction.”
He called for decisive steps to tackle poverty and long-standing socioeconomic issues.
“We have danced around some subjects for too long. It’s time to take concrete action to ensure that the masses of our country do not live in abject poverty,” he said.
Bakare’s visit comes weeks after he criticized certain government policies during a state of the nation address at his church on April 19. His tone now reflects cautious optimism, focused on constructive engagement.
