Twitter recently changed its logo from the iconic blue bird to a dog icon, leaving many wondering why.

The dog graphic is actually the logo for dogecoin, a cryptocurrency that Twitter owner Elon Musk has publicly supported in the past.

Musk even posted an old conversation thread from March 2022 suggesting that he should buy Twitter and change its icon to the dogecoin dog.

While some have speculated that this was an April fool’s joke that missed the actual day, the logo switch has seen a roughly 30% leap in the value of Dogecoin.

However, Musk has faced legal troubles related to his support of the cryptocurrency, with a crypto investor in New York suing him for inflating the price of dogecoin under the premise that it was a pyramid scheme.

Musk has asked a US judge to drop the case, arguing that there is nothing unlawful about tweeting support for a legitimate cryptocurrency.

The dog in the dogecoin graphic is a Shiba Inu and the subject of an internet meme established in 2010-2013.

Dogecoin was created as a joke at the height of the meme’s relevancy in 2013 by software engineers at IBM and Adobe.
