Manuel Ugarte is reportedly set to travel to England on Tuesday to undergo a medical with Manchester United, with the Uruguayan midfielder possibly making his debut in Sunday’s Premier League clash against Liverpool.
The 23-year-old has been Manchester United’s top midfield target throughout the summer, and it is now understood that the club has reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for his transfer.
According to reports, Ugarte will sign a long-term deal with United after completing his medical.
The transfer fee is expected to be an initial €50 million (£42.2 million), with an additional €10 million (£8.4 million) in potential add-ons.
This fee represents a reduction from PSG’s initial demand of €60 million (£50.6 million).
Ugarte joined PSG from Sporting Lisbon last summer and made 37 appearances for PSG last season.
Ugarte’s arrival is expected to trigger a midfield reshuffle at Manchester United.
Scott McTominay is anticipated to leave Old Trafford, with the Scotland international closing in on a move to Napoli.
Although Fulham showed interest earlier this summer, McTominay now seems set to switch to Serie A with Napoli.
Barring any delays, Ugarte’s deal should be completed in time for him to be in the squad for Sunday’s game against Liverpool.
Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag is under pressure to deliver results following last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Brighton, and Ugarte’s inclusion could be a game-changer.
