The United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Molly Phee, recently revealed that the US has no chosen candidate in the upcoming Nigerian Presidential election.
During a visit to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Head Mahmood Yakubu’s office, she expressed her confidence that the election will be smooth and successful.
Ms Phee stressed that democracy should be open to all people regardless of their economic status or religion, meaning that every single vote counts.
While pledging their support for a credible poll, the US stated that they are proud of their contributions to aiding INEC in hosting such a large and diverse country’s election.
They also encouraged Nigerians to remain peaceful throughout the pre-expressing campaign period and after for it to go as smoothly as possible.
Mr Yakubu reaffirmed INEC’s commitment towards guaranteeing free and fair elections as well as upholding the decision of the people.
He additionally noted if Nigeria continues on its trajectory then they may eventually become the world’s largest presidential democracy!
