Jamie Vardy made his return to the Premier League, scoring a crucial goal in Leicester City‘s 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite not playing in preseason, the 37-year-old striker was named in the starting lineup for Leicester’s Premier League opener at the King Power Stadium.
Vardy marked his return to the top flight with a well-placed header in the 57th minute, equalizing for his side.
Vardy was substituted in the 79th minute to a standing ovation.
As he left, he was jeered by Spurs‘ away fans, to whom he responded by pointing at the Premier League badge on his arm and holding up one finger, referencing Leicester’s 2016 title win.
He then pointed at the Spurs fans and made a zero sign with his finger, seemingly mocking their lack of a Premier League title.
After the match, Vardy reflected on his performance and the interaction with the fans.
He mentioned that taking and giving back stick is part of football.
On the subject of age, Vardy, stated, “I see it as just a number. As long as I keep looking after myself and my legs feel great, I’ll carry on as long as physically possible.”
