Chelsea are delighted to announce that veteran defender Thiago Silva has signed a new one-year contract through the summer of 2024.
Having previously signed one-year contracts since joining Chelsea as a free transfer in 2020, the Brazil international continues to prove his worth as an integral member of the squad led by head coach Graham Potter.
Despite his 38 years of age, the former AC Milan and Fluminense player has continued to impress, starting 18 out of 21 Premier League matches this season.
As he helped steer Brazil to a quarterfinal finish at the 2022 World Cup, Chelsea’s chairman Todd Boehly and co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali expressed their delight in Silva’s decision to extend his stay:
“We’re delighted that Thiago has decided to continue with Chelsea…we look forward to more success with him ahead!”
