The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, is facing mounting trouble after being accused of secretly acquiring multimillion-dollar real estate in Florida — www.naijnaira.com reports.
The petition was submitted on September 22, 2025, by activist Omoyele Sowore, urging Florida attorney general James Uthmeier to prosecute Wike for alleged money laundering.
Sowore’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, co-signed the petition, asking American authorities to impose visa bans and sanctions on the minister.
Peoples Gazette, which first reported the issue on September 1, revealed that Wike and his wife, Justice Eberechi Nyesom-Wike of Nigeria’s Court of Appeal, allegedly acquired three luxury homes in Seminole County between 2021 and 2023.
The combined value of the properties now exceeds $6 million, and records show the homes were transferred to their children: Jordan, 25, Joaquin, 23, and Jazmyne, 20.
The homes in question are located at 113 Springcreek Lane, 209 Hertherwood Court, and 208 Hertherwood Court, purchased in cash through quitclaim deeds.
“These transactions, executed in cash and hidden under the names of his children, form a deliberate scheme to launder the proceeds of corruption into U.S. real estate,” the petition alleged.
The activist further noted that the assets were not declared to Nigeria’s Code of Conduct Bureau, violating the constitutional requirement for public officials to disclose all properties.
Laws cited in the petition include Florida’s Money Laundering Act, the Contraband Forfeiture Act, and U.S. federal statutes on money laundering.
“This brazen conduct, combined with his unexplained foreign acquisitions, suggests that Florida is being used as a safe haven for laundering the proceeds of corruption,” it stated.
Wike, considered one of President Bola Tinubu’s strongest allies, played a decisive role in the 2023 Rivers State election that bolstered Tinubu’s victory.
