Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed claims suggesting he was pressured to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race in favour of a southern candidate, NaijNaira can report.
He made this known after reports surfaced following the opposition’s recent alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as reported by Naija News.
Atiku, alongside key political figures including Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Aminu Tambuwal, reportedly agreed to back the ADC as the coalition’s platform against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Responding through his media office, Atiku described the claims as entirely false and politically motivated.
“There was no such meeting. Atiku Abubakar was never in attendance. The entire story is a malicious fabrication — pure fiction cooked up in the propaganda kitchens of the Tinubu-led APC regime,” the statement read.
He labelled the rumour a “diversionary tactic” meant to stir internal conflict and weaken the growing support behind the coalition.
Atiku reaffirmed the coalition’s focus and unity, insisting they remain committed to challenging what he called a “rudderless government.”
He added, “No amount of propaganda, planted stories, or faceless briefings will fracture the resolve of the opposition coalition.”
His team urged Nigerians to disregard the story, calling it baseless and lacking credibility.
The ADC, they maintained, remains the most promising platform for real political change in the 2027 elections.
