Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, paid a touching condolence visit to the family of late Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, in Lagos – www.naijnaira.com reports.
According to Sahara Reporters, Obi arrived at the Amuwo Odofin home of the football legend on Saturday morning, a day after Rufai was laid to rest.
The former governor was not alone, as he came in company of ex-international Sylvanus Okpala.
He was welcomed by Rufai’s younger brother, Bruce, who flew in from Spain for the burial, as well as sisters Bosede and Dele.
Obi stayed for close to an hour, signing the condolence register before addressing the grieving family.
“I’m here to say I’m very sorry about the passing of our great goalkeeper,” Obi said with emotion.
He explained that he only heard about the burial date too late and had to fly straight from Abuja to Lagos that morning.
Obi told them, “Please, be consoled. May his soul continue to rest in peace.”
The family admitted that the visit lifted their spirits after feeling ignored by authorities.
“We can’t thank you enough,” Bruce said, calling Obi’s presence “truly consoling.”
Some relatives screamed in excitement as they saw Obi enter the same house where the legendary “Dodo Mayana” once lived.
