Alejandro Garnacho’s time at Manchester United ended with a ruthless message from Ruben Amorim, and the fallout cleared the way for his £40m move to Chelsea — www.naijnaira.com reports.
According to The Athletic, the winger was publicly told in front of teammates: “You better hope you have a good agent this summer.”
That cutting remark came before United’s final game of last season, when Amorim made it clear the 21-year-old had no future at Old Trafford.
The decision followed months of tension, beginning with Garnacho’s criticism over his lack of minutes in the Europa League final.
He was then dropped for the Manchester derby in December, a move that widened the gap between manager and player.
By May, Amorim had placed Garnacho in the infamous “bomb squad,” a group of unwanted players set aside from the main squad.
Chelsea initially tested the waters with player-exchange offers, before finally paying £40m plus a 10% sell-on clause after United rejected their £25m bid.
The transfer makes Garnacho the fourth-most expensive sale in Manchester United history.
Since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2020, Garnacho made 144 appearances, scoring 26 goals and adding 22 assists.
In a farewell message, he wrote: “After an unforgettable five years, this special chapter in my life now comes to a close. Every time I wore the badge, I gave everything I had.”
He will line up against United in Chelsea colors on September 20, marking an early reunion with his former club.
