The Rivers State transition officially kicks off with an inter-denominational thanksgiving service at the Ecumenical Centre, Port Harcourt, on Sunday, September 14, 2025 – www.naijnaira.com reports.
Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), the state administrator, announced the start of the handover process six months after President Bola Tinubu placed the state under emergency rule, according to Channels TV.
The thanksgiving service will host local government chairmen, permanent secretaries, security agencies, community leaders, business executives, and traditional rulers.
Professor Lucky Worika, Secretary to the State Government, confirmed that the service will bring together top government officials and stakeholders in preparation for a democratic handover.
On Friday, Ibas received the report of the August 30 local government election and declared that his mandate from the president had been completed.
“When Mr. President entrusted me with this difficult assignment, I pledged to serve with courage and impartiality,” he said.
He stressed that his administration succeeded in restoring peace, stabilizing governance, and protecting economic assets after months of unrest.
“I can confidently say the presidential mandate has been fulfilled,” Ibas declared with satisfaction.
He credited the cooperation of civil servants, security agencies, and residents for making the period a “trying but purposeful” one.
Ibas added that Rivers State now stands more stable and prepared for a return to full democratic governance.
