President Bola Tinubu has taken action by appointing a Special Investigator, Jim Obazee, to probe the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Related Entities.
In accordance with the fight against corruption, President Tinubu has tasked Obazee with investigating the CBN and key Government Business Entities (GBEs).
The appointment is effective immediately, and Obazee will report directly to the President’s office.
The terms of his engagement will be communicated in due course, but his main objectives are to strengthen and ensure probity in the GBEs, block leakages in the CBN and related entities, and provide a comprehensive report on public wealth in the hands of corrupt individuals and establishments.
Obazee will work with a competent team and collaborate with security and anti-corruption agencies.
The President expects weekly briefings on the progress of the investigation.
Additionally, the President has sent a directive suspending Godwin Emefiele as Governor of the CBN since June 9, 2023.
Emefiele has been in custody and was recently arraigned in court and granted bail before being rearrested by the secret police.
