FIFA President Slams Racism Following Abuse of Alejandro Balde by Getafe Fans

During a 1-1 draw between Barcelona and Getafe at Estadio Coliseum, Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde was subjected to racial abuse by a group of Getafe supporters.

The fans directed discriminatory chants at Balde, which were promptly reported by Barcelona staff.

The club has shown strong support for Balde, who has received solidarity from his teammates and fans.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino condemned the incident, calling the racist insults aimed at Balde “horrifying.”

In a press statement, Infantino stressed that such behavior has no place in football or society and called for collective action to combat racism.

“Racism is a scourge that we must unite against to fight and defeat,” Infantino added, reaffirming FIFA’s commitment to battling discrimination.

This incident adds to a troubling series of racist abuses in La Liga, with players like Vinicius Junior also targeted in the past.

Despite the recurring nature of these offenses, many believe that authorities have not taken adequate steps to address the issue.
