Residents of Lagos and Oyo States joined the nationwide protest organized by the Take-It-Back Movement and various civil society groups.
Protesters marched to oppose the misuse of Nigeria’s Cybercrime Act, accusing security agencies and government officials of using the law to stifle free speech and press freedom.
“Those in authority now use the law to stifle the press and criminalize free speech in the country,” the protesters said.
According to Sahara Reporters, frustrations over the restrictive nature of the law and Nigeria’s economic hardships fueled the protests.
In Lagos, demonstrators gathered at the Ikeja Under Bridge, holding placards with messages calling for the repeal of the Cybercrime Act.
In Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, protesters assembled at Iwo Road, despite the heavy security presence in the area.
The protests across the country reflect growing discontent with policies that threaten citizens’ rights and worsen economic struggles.
