Wike APC PDP, Onovo APC crisis, 2027 Nigerian elections

Former presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party (NCP), Martin Onovo, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of deliberately stirring turmoil in rival political parties to maintain power beyond 2027.

According to The Sun, Onovo stated that the current crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—including the role of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike—points to a larger scheme by the ruling party to dominate the political scene.

“The ruling party is the rogue sponsor of the crisis in opposition parties. This is not a secret among party chieftains,” Onovo said.

He described Wike as “an APC man in PDP clothing,” referencing the minister’s position in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet while still being a PDP member. Onovo argued that this dual alignment illustrates the APC’s plan to infiltrate and control opposition structures ahead of the 2027 Nigerian elections.

‘One-Party State Agenda Will Fail’ – Onovo

Onovo warned that the APC is attempting to impose compromised leadership on opposition parties, ensuring they will endorse Tinubu’s re-election bid. He compared the tactic to the infamous era of General Sani Abacha’s tightly controlled political system.

He insisted such plans would ultimately fail, asserting that genuine opposition voices are being silenced in favor of party defectors who may regret their choices by 2027.

On Presidency Rotation: ‘It Must Remain in the South’

Touching on the sensitive topic of presidency rotation in Nigeria, Onovo maintained that power should return to the South in 2027 but emphasized that neither Tinubu nor the APC should lead.

He said the principle of rotation is comparable to the constitutional federal character policy and must be upheld for the country’s stability and fairness.
