Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has renewed pressure on President Bola Tinubu to immediately release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), NaijNaira can report, stressing that four years of detention is unjust and intolerable.

Speaking through its National Publicity Secretary, Ezechi Chukwu, in a weekend statement, the group demanded urgent action, referencing Punch as the initial source of the report.

Kanu was seized in Kenya in June 2021 and flown back to Nigeria, where he has remained behind bars ever since.

Ohanaeze insists his rendition was illegal and says the continued trial raises serious concerns about fairness and legal integrity.

“The question of Nnamdi Kanu’s continued detention poses a moral burden on the corporate integrity of the Nigerian judicial system,” Chukwu stated.

He warned that global eyes are fixed on Nigeria’s handling of this matter, accusing authorities of deliberately delaying justice.

“Ohanaeze wonders the rationale for detaining Kanu for four years without justice, especially since his extradition from Kenya was unlawful,” Chukwu added.

The group says releasing Kanu would be a powerful message of healing and inclusivity for the South-East region, where feelings of marginalization remain high.

They also emphasized that Tinubu has both the legal authority and diplomatic reach to end this standoff immediately.

Calls for equity, justice, and national unity have grown louder as Kanu’s detention stretches into its fourth year.

Ohanaeze urged Tinubu to act now—not just for Kanu, but for the country’s moral and legal standing.
