Tensions have escalated in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as two rival factions led by Nyesom Wike and Seyi Makinde prepare for separate meetings in Abuja today, NaijNaira can report.
Sources told The Punch that both camps are mobilising for conflicting NEC and National Caucus sessions, intensifying the party’s internal power struggle.
The PDP Board of Trustees is also scheduled to meet, as the crisis shows no sign of slowing.
Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum and key NWC members met Sunday in Wadata to push for an expanded caucus session rather than a NEC meeting.
Present at that meeting were Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umar Bature, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), Senator Bello Gwarzo, and others aligned with Wike’s interests.
However, Makinde’s allies—including Taofeek Arapaja, Ali Odefa, Emmanuel Ogidi, Debo Ologunagba, and Setonji Koshoedo—are insisting the NEC must proceed as planned.
Makinde’s group, which includes governors from Enugu, Bayelsa, Osun, and Zamfara, stands firmly against Anyanwu’s return as National Secretary.
Wike’s faction, meanwhile, wants the NEC postponed and Anyanwu reinstated, aligning with governors from Plateau, Taraba, Adamawa, and Bauchi.
A senior source said, “PDP is bigger than any individual… the NEC is the most supreme organ after the National Convention.”
He added, “All accreditation materials are printed, and NEC members have been invited. Only they will be allowed access.”
The battle over control, legitimacy, and leadership continues as both sides dig in ahead of today’s high-stakes gathering.
