The Labour Party has confirmed its 2027 presidential ticket is open to all contenders without preference for any individual, including former candidate Peter Obi, NaijNaira can report. National Publicity Secretary Abayomi Arabambi made this clear during a press conference in Abuja.
In a statement, Arabambi described Obi’s selection in 2023 as a “costly mistake” the party plans to avoid. He also criticized Obi’s new involvement with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where the former LP candidate has aligned with a coalition movement to contest the next presidential election.
Arabambi stated, “There shall be primary elections in the Labour Party, and no aspirant will be favored this time around.” He went on to say, “We wish Obi well in his yahoo yahoo coalition, but the LP ticket is open to all Nigerians.”
Calling the coalition “ungodly” and filled with the same actors responsible for Nigeria’s 2015–2023 hardship, Arabambi warned voters not to be misled again. He accused Obi of being a populist with no credible plan for national development, insisting that the Labour Party will now prioritize candidates with real leadership potential and a proven track record.
