Chidozie Awaziem may be on the verge of a return to Europe, with Cypriot champions Pafos FC expressing interest in signing the Nigerian defender, NaijNaira can report.
Pafos are monitoring the 28-year-old, who currently plays for Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids. The club’s spokesperson, Christoforos Mattheou, shared, “He (Awaziem) is also a player being considered by the planning committee. It is a difficult case, but we are indeed interested.”
Awaziem signed with Colorado Rapids in December 2024 and has featured 19 times this season, providing one assist and delivering consistent performances. Before his MLS stint, he played briefly for FC Cincinnati.
His career includes spells across Europe — Portugal’s FC Porto, France’s Nantes, Spain’s Leganes, Turkey’s Alanyaspor, and Croatia’s Hajduk Split.
Pafos, fresh off their first Cypriot league title and a solid UEFA Conference League run, are preparing for their Champions League debut.
They view Awaziem’s international experience and defensive strength as key assets.
He has over 30 caps for Nigeria and featured at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and multiple AFCON tournaments.
While he’s yet to appear under coach Eric Chelle, a European move could revive his international prospects.
