The resignation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has triggered a wave of political defections in Adamawa State, NaijNaira can report.
Top figures from both the PDP and All Progressives Congress (APC), including Senator Abbo and former Tinubu youth coordinator in Adamawa, have joined the Africa Democracy Congress (ADC).
According to Tribune Online, party loyalists from all 21 local government areas are switching sides.
Former governors, deputy governors, and lawmakers at both state and federal levels have also aligned with Atiku’s new coalition.
Umar Bindow’s posters under the ADC platform have surfaced statewide, with reports that 90% of his former cabinet members are planning to leave their parties.
Atiku resigned on July 14, citing “irreconcilable differences” and the PDP’s drift from its original values.
“I find it necessary to part ways due to the current trajectory the Party has taken,” he wrote in his resignation letter.
The letter, addressed to PDP’s Jada 1 Ward chairman, was officially received on the same date.
PDP state chairman Aliyu Shehu admitted Atiku’s exit is “huge,” but maintained the party’s resilience in Adamawa.
A grassroots politician, James Gibson, remarked, “Politicians are known for jumping ships—even while in power.”
