Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai have been given a pass to stay with their respective parties—Labour Party and SDP—even as opposition groups rally under the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 elections – www.naijnaira.com reports.

The African Democratic Congress, according to The Punch, made this clarification after its interim Chairman, David Mark, warned members against internal sabotage and double-party loyalty. Mark told party members during a meeting in Abuja that the ADC wouldn’t accommodate divided loyalties or fence-sitters.

Despite Mark’s stern remarks, the ADC’s interim spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, confirmed that both Obi and El-Rufai won’t be asked to leave their current parties. He explained that this decision was made due to the political groundwork their supporters had already laid in those parties.

Dr. Yunusa Tanko of the Obidient Movement stated, “Our principal already told the coalition leaders he is staying in Labour. No confusion about that.”

Abdullahi backed this, saying the pair had requested and received special waivers to remain until after the election.

Obi’s team also dismissed viral statements alleging he had rejoined PDP or accepted a role in ADC. “He didn’t make those claims,” said his media aide, Umar Ibrahim, urging the public to trust only verified sources.
