João Mendes, the son of Barcelona legend Ronaldinho, has signed his first contract with the Catalan club following a successful trial with their U-19 team.
Barcelona unveiled the forward on Thursday and he is now part of La Masia academy where he will work on honing his craft.
His contract runs until 2024 when it will be decided as to whether to extend it or not; Sportsmail had first reported in February that he was training and undergoing a trial with the club.
After impressing Barcelona’s decision-makers, Mendes has been rewarded for his efforts and follows in his father’s footsteps who made 145 appearances for the LaLiga giants.
The left-footed forward is a natural striker looking to make his way into Xavi’s attack at Camp Nou.
Ronaldinho currently serves as an ambassador for the team and will be keenly involved in his son’s development at the club.
Recently taking part in Gerard Pique’s seven-a-side league, Ronaldinho admitted after their first draw that ”I don’t want to run, I let the others run.”
