In a significant political move, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has annulled the traditional titles previously held by himself, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Governor Boni Haruna, and several others. The action follows a sweeping restructuring of emirates and chiefdoms within the state.
Fintiri made the announcement during the coronation of the newly appointed Chief of Madagali.
He emphasized that, moving forward, all District Heads must align with the newly established emirates and chiefdoms. He explained that the titles granted under the old jurisdictions are no longer recognized.
The overhaul primarily impacts titles previously granted under the Adamawa and Mubi emirates.
As a result, Fintiri has given up his title of Sarki Yaki Mubi, Atiku is stripped of his position as Waziri Adamawa, and Haruna loses his Makama Mubi title, along with other affected individuals.
To facilitate the transition, the governor instructed traditional councils in the newly created emirates to submit new title proposals in line with local customs.
He also mentioned that the Lamido of Adamawa could recommend the reinstatement of Atiku’s title and those of others, but such appointments will require the governor’s final approval.
