Atiku Abubakar met with several high-profile political figures in Abuja on Saturday evening, July 5, as discussions around forming a united front for the 2027 general election continue, NaijNaira can report.

The meeting, held at Atiku’s residence, brought together key opposition voices including former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, former Adamawa North senator Elisha Abbo, former Adamawa Central senator Aishatu Binani, and ex-Governor Jibrilla Bindow. This was confirmed in a tweet by Abdulrasheed Shehu, Atiku’s media aide, who posted a photo of the group.

“This evening, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar convened a strategic meeting with several notable politicians… The meeting was productive and engaging,” Shehu tweeted.

The Alliance for Democratic Change (ADC) appears to be the latest platform rallying opposition forces against President Bola Tinubu. Atiku, widely seen as Tinubu’s main challenger, is reportedly pushing for a stronger and more unified bloc before the 2027 contest.

Meanwhile, government officials loyal to Tinubu have dismissed the coalition’s momentum. Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo described it as “packaged to shortchange Peter Obi.” Presidential aide Sunday Dare criticized the ADC alignment, calling it a “desperate and self-serving power grab.”

In Kebbi, Governor Nasir Idris’ spokesman, Yahaya Sarki, urged residents to disregard the ADC-led coalition, saying the governor’s achievements speak louder than political noise.
