Many african players over the years trod the Serie A stadiums with their talents, with some failing to excell while other excelled in a league regarded as the most ruthless.

There is no way the lore of Italian football will be discussed that the impact African players had on the league won’t be talked about, considering how some of the continent players turned out to be a cult-hero in Serie A.

With Napoli and Victor Osimhen being the talk of the world, here on Naijnaira, we’ll do a top 5 list of most scoring African players in a Serie A season.

Victor Osimhen – (Napoli, 25-goals)

To say Victor Osimhen is one of the most ruthless and clinical strikers in the world is absolutely an understatement, because the Super Eagles forward has been nothing but phenomenon this season in Serie A.

When the Nigeria international joined Napoli from Lille he didn’t have a great campaign in his debut season due to injury, but this season the 22-year-old didn’t only win the Scudetto for the Partenopai he scored a whopping 25-goals and broke George Weah’s standing record.

With Serie A campaign done and dusted Osimhen added to his goal tally yesterday against Bologna, to finish the season as the highest goal-scorer and also become the first african player to score 25-goal in a Serie A season.

Samuel Eto’o – (Inter Milan, 21-goals)

In the 2010-11 Serie A campaign Samuel Eto’o was unarguably the best African player in the Italian league having won the Scudetto, Champions League and the Coppa Italia.

The former Cameroon international scored a whopping 21-goals in Serie A that cumulated into a successful season for him and the team itself.

If the lore of Italian football is been discussed, there is no way the legendary name of Samuel Eto’o will not pop-up having laid down an unforgettable mark in the league with his goal-scoring prowess.

Simy Nwankwo – (Crotone, 20-goals)

Simy Tochukwu Nwankwo became the second African player alongside Samuel Eto’o to have scored 20 goals in Serie A, when he achieved the feat in 2020-21 season with Crotone.

Before he achieved that great feat with his club in the top-flight, he had already achieved something similar in the Serie B when finished the 2019-20 campaign as the top-scorer.

Though the lanky centre-forward isn’t playing in the topflight of Italian football presently, his currently on-loan at Serie B side Benevento with an option to buy outrightly.

Keita Balde – (Lazio, 16-goals)

In a seven seasons spell in Serie A, the Senegalese scored a total of 41 goals in 158 games representing four Italian clubs, Lazio, Inter, Sampdoria and Cagliari.

Balde’s best goal-scoring season was in the 2016-17 campaign where he notched a total of 16-goals in 31-games for the Biancocelesti.

Aside the fact that he had a healthy goal-scoring record in Serie A, he also had a very impressive assists record (13) during his sojourn in the Italian top-flight.

Mohamed Salah – (AS Roma, 15-goals)

If there is any league Mo Salah had one of the most impressive and commendable performance in a season, it’s obviously the Serie A when he scored a total of 15-goals in a season and 19 in all competitions for the Giallorossi.

The Egyptian lethal form ranks him among one of the most scoring African players in a Serie A with the 15-goals he scored in 2016-17 season for AS Roma.

Though in that season the Giallorossi couldn’t win the Scudetto, but his impact was hugely felt throughout the league with his magnificent partnership with Edin Dzeko.
