Cristiano Ronaldo’s new club, Al-Nassr, has dismissed reports claiming that the footballer is required to support Saudi Arabia and their joint bid for the 2030 World Cup as part of his contract.

Ronaldo joined the Saudi team last month after leaving Manchester United, with a lucrative deal worth £175million per year on a five-year contract.

Although it was claimed that Ronaldo had agreed to act as an ambassador for Saudi, this statement released by Al-Nassr through Twitter categorically denied that any obligations such as this are included in his contract.

On the other hand, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi was already revealed to be an ambassador for Saudi, despite previous criticism of their human rights record and activists’ concerns over his potential involvement.

Ronaldo is currently serving a two-match ban from the FA before he debuts for Al-Nassr and may possibly face Messi when PSG are set to clash with a combined team from Al-Nassr and Al Hilal later this month.
