Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter has reportedly declined the opportunity to become the new head coach of Ajax.

According to Sky Sports News, Potter was the top choice for the Eredivisie club, and talks were held between the two parties.

However, it seems that Potter is not interested in joining the Dutch side at this time.

This news comes four months after reports that Potter was expected to be high on Manchester United’s shortlist of managerial candidates if they were to part ways with Erik ten Hag.

Potter’s success at Brighton and his previous working relationship with Dan Ashworth, who is rumored to be joining Manchester United as their new sporting director, make him a strong contender for the job at Old Trafford. Potter has been without a job since his departure from Stamford Bridge in April 2023.

He has already turned down offers to take over at Lyon and the Swedish national team, indicating that he is waiting for the right opportunity before returning to the managerial seat.

Ajax has been without a permanent manager since October, when Maurice Steijn was sacked.

John van’t Schip has been in temporary charge, but the club currently sits in sixth place in the league, 33 points behind leaders PSV.

Recent heavy defeats to Feyenoord and Aston Villa have further highlighted the need for a new manager.

While Potter may have turned down the Ajax vacancy, all eyes are now on whether he will be the one to take charge at Manchester United in the near future.
