Amidst the deepening crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), major stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State have made an unexpected move.
They have called on President Bola Tinubu to consider appointing the former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, as a minister.
This surprising request comes as a result of Wike’s alleged role in President Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential election.
The stakeholders, led by Chief Tony Okocha, a chieftain of the APC, believe that Wike deserves the ministerial slot more than Magnus Abe, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Okocha also criticized Abe for leaving the APC when the party needed him the most and now attempting to gain a prominent position within President Tinubu’s political circle.
The support for Wike stems from his efforts in keeping the ruling party together during a time when major stakeholders, like Abe, turned their backs.
It is worth noting that Wike, a leader of the PDP, had reportedly supported Tinubu and the APC during the presidential election due to a leadership tussle within the PDP.
