The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially scheduled its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for July 24 to decide who will replace Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as national chairman, NaijNaira can report.
Ganduje stepped down last week, triggering leadership conversations at the top level of the party. The Sun confirmed that the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) reached this decision during a meeting held Monday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Deputy National Secretary, Festus Faunter, addressed journalists after the meeting and explained the urgency behind the NEC gathering.
“With the resignation of the former chairman, it has become necessary to hold a crucial NEC meeting,” Faunter said.
He added that the committee had already approved formal notice for the July meeting, which will take place at the APC national headquarters.
“If the NEC wishes to nominate a new chairman during the session, that decision will stand until ratified at the party convention,” he added.
Faunter also confirmed that the NWC discussed pending bye-elections triggered by resignations and deaths in legislative seats across various states.
He said the party’s election machinery is already preparing for these contests and will unveil its plans publicly soon.
Touching on the disputed primary in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Faunter revealed that the report has been received and will undergo a full review before final decisions are made.
