The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State says Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso must publicly apologise to President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima before he can be welcomed into the party.
According to Punch, the party’s chairman in Kano, Abdullahi Abbas, made this known during a media briefing on Friday. He said that while the party is willing to accept defectors, respect and loyalty remain non-negotiable.
Abbas pointed out that anyone who previously attacked key APC leaders, especially the president and vice president, must show remorse before being admitted.
He explained that the APC had launched efforts to register decampees at the ward level across Kano. However, he stressed that no one would be treated as a special case, no matter their status.
Abbas stated clearly that the party would not allow individuals seeking refuge from legal trouble or political isolation to use the APC as a safe haven.
He warned that joining the party wouldn’t protect any individual from scrutiny by agencies such as the EFCC or ICPC.
“All those prospective decampees who have earlier made derogatory statements against our leaders… must offer a public apology as a sign of remorse, and respect for future relationships,” Abbas said.
He added that people attempting to join the APC must follow the same process as everyone else by registering in their local wards.
The chairman also noted that some politicians had damaged their reputations and were now trying to find relevance through the APC.
He assured that no group or association would be allowed to operate within the party like a cult, warning that the APC would remain committed to discipline and internal order.
The message comes amid speculation over Kwankwaso’s rumored defection to the APC, after tensions reportedly weakened his position in the NNPP.
