The All Progressive Congress (APC) Executive Committee in Isaipen Ward 8, Owo Local Government Area (LGA) of Ondo State, has suspended its Chairman, Olayode Omorayewa, for abuse of office and mismanagement.

The suspension notice, which takes effect from Sunday, April 9, 2023, was signed by 24 ward executive committee members and three local government executive committee members from the ward. It was addressed to the LGA chairman of the APC.

The Executive Committee members expressed their loss of confidence in Omorayewa, stating that he has been unable to move the party forward.

They cited his estranged relationship with other executive committee members, party leaders in Isaipen, and other ward Chairmen and Unit Heads as reasons for his suspension.

The suspension notice read:

“The Executive Committee of Isaipen ward 8 in Owo, Owo Local Government met today to deliberate on some developments which are inimical to the interest and growth of our party.”

“After extensive deliberations, it was unanimously agreed that the ward Chairman is not providing the required leadership and his attitude is creating disharmony across board within the party. His continued retention as Ward Chairman and suitability has to be reviewed in the overall interest of the party.”

This development is coming at a time when the party is preparing for the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

The suspension of Omorayewa has caused mixed reactions among party faithfuls in the ward, with some supporting the decision while others are calling for his reinstatement.

Meanwhile, efforts to reach Omorayewa for his reaction to the suspension have been unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.

The APC in Ondo State has been experiencing leadership crisis in recent times, with factions emerging and counter-accusations of mismanagement and abuse of office.

The party has been making efforts to reconcile its members ahead of the local government elections in the state.

Observers have called on the party leadership to address the issues causing the crisis and ensure that the party remains united and focused on its objectives.

They also urged the suspended Chairman and other aggrieved members to work towards the resolution of their differences in the interest of the party and the state at large.
