Arsenal’s hopes of having William Saliba back for their upcoming match against West Ham United have been dashed as the defender missed training on Tuesday due to a back injury.
Saliba has been absent for several weeks and has missed the past three Premier League games, during which Arsenal have failed to keep a clean sheet.
While there was optimism that Saliba would return to action this weekend, it now seems unlikely.
However, there was some positive news regarding Eddie Nketiah, who was part of the open training session after missing March’s games with an ankle injury.
Nketiah’s return will bolster Arteta’s options in attack for the remaining eight games of the season.
Mohamed Elneny and Takehiro Tomiyasu are the Gunners’ long-term absentees, while Oleksandr Zinchenko and Ben White were absent from Tuesday’s training session but were completing sessions in the gym.
