Nigeria’s very own musical sensation, Asake, has emerged as the winner of the prestigious Best African Act award at the 2024 MOBO Awards.
Known for his hit track “Lonely at the Top,” Asake triumphed over renowned stars such as Adekunle Gold, Davido, Rema, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Rema in this highly competitive category.
The list of nominees also included talented artists from across the continent, including South African Tyla, Cameroonian-American Libianca, and Eswatini’s very own Uncle Waffles.
Asake wasn’t the only Nigerian artist to secure a victory at the 2024 MOBO Awards.
Afro-gospel singer Limoblaze also clinched the title of Best Gospel Artist, further adding to Nigeria’s growing dominance in the music industry.
With these wins, Asake and Limoblaze join the ranks of esteemed Nigerian artists such as 2Baba, D’Banj, Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, who have all previously secured victories at the MOBO Awards.
Among the other winners at the 2024 MOBO Awards, British-Nigerian rapper Tunde emerged as the Best New Artist, while Central Cee, a British rapper, took home two awards for Best Male Act and Song of the Year for his collaboration with British-Nigerian rapper Dave on the track “Sprinter.”
The title of Best International Act was shared by Drake and 21 Savage, and the iconic group Soul II Soul received the esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award.
The 2024 MOBO Awards showcased a diverse range of talent across various genres, including alternative music, Caribbean music, drill, electronic/dance, grime, hip-hop, jazz, and more.
The event also recognized individuals excelling in other aspects of the industry, such as media personalities and producers.
