Students in the country have decried the prolonged stroke of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, threatening to disrupt economic activities in the country if the strike is not resolved as soon as possible.
The threat was made by the chairman of the national association of Nigerian students NANS, Ogun State chapter, Comrade Kehinde Damilola, who was featured on a radio programme on Monday.
Comrade Damilola accused the federal government of not showing seriousness in the handling of the crisis in the country’s public varsities.
“We’ve been at the forefront of this struggle so far and we will definitely shutdown the entire economy if the needful isn’t done,” Damilola said.
“It has gotten to a point where Nigerian students are getting aggravated and since they didn’t reach a conclusion that will favour the entire Nigerian students during today’s meeting, it’s clear that they’re not taking us serious and we will shutdown the economy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from our respective states.”
He however appealed to ASUU to consider the plight of the students.
“I will implore ASUU to please not let us get to that stage before the needful is being done.”
