The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) has made a significant ruling on the reply filed by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding their petition against President Bola Tinubu.
In the ruling read by Justice Boloukuoromo Ugo, the court has struck out certain portions of the reply, including the accusation of Tinubu’s dual citizenship.
Furthermore, the court rejected the claim made by the petitioners that Tinubu was not qualified due to alleged criminal conviction and criminal forfeiture in the United States.
The court deemed this information as an attempt to introduce fresh evidence to compensate for the lack of evidence provided in their initial petition.
The court also ruled that the two witness statements and other documents submitted with the reply were inadmissible.
Additionally, evidence from witnesses whose written statements were not filed together with the petition, along with the corresponding documents, were also struck out.
This ruling is crucial as it narrows down the scope of the petition and removes certain allegations made against Tinubu.
The court’s decision emphasizes the importance of presenting valid and admissible evidence during the proceedings.
