The legal process initiated by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), requesting the discovery of President Bola Tinubu’s academic records from Chicago State University (CSU) has taken a new turn with the admission of errors on the documents.
In response to Atiku’s inquiry, Tinubu’s lawyers blamed the clerk of CSU for the errors in his academic documents and certificate.
Tinubu’s lawyers stated that the clerk mistakenly made errors in the dates stated on his recently-issued certificate, creating the appearance of differences.
This claim was made before the judge hearing the case in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago.
Atiku had subpoenaed the university to discover Tinubu’s academic records in order to shed light on the controversies surrounding Tinubu’s educational claims.
Tinubu’s lawyers admitted that the documents were from CSU but argued that the August 2022 subpoena was illegal and invalid.
They also mentioned changes in school-authorized signatories, logos, and fonts on the certificate, which contributed to the appearance of wrongdoing.
