Legendary Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho has confirmed that his 17-year-old son, Joao de Assis Moreira, will be joining Barcelona following a successful trial.
Mendes had previously attempted to hide his identity at a Cruzeiro trial so as not to let his famous father influence the club’s decision.
After making a huge impression at the tryout, he joined the Brazilian club’s youth system, though his contract was eventually terminated in Belo Horizonte.
Despite this setback, Mendes was invited to La Masia and initially struggled at the start of the trial before slowly flourishing over time.
This led to Barcelona offering him a deal on the back of it with Ronaldinho confirming the news by saying “With the arrival of my son at Barca I’ll be more present than ever.”
Being an official ambassador for Barcelona since 2016, Ronaldinho will always have strong ties within the club with his son potentially now taking up those same links and looking to build on them himself.
