Tributes were paid to Abba Kyari, the late Chief of Staff to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, on the third anniversary of his death.

Kyari passed away in 2020 from COVID-19 complications, shortly after returning from a trip to Germany.

Despite being accused of being part of a controlling group called the “cabal” that influenced Buhari’s administration, Kyari was remembered fondly by those paying tribute to him on Twitter.

Gimba Kakanda, a writer, referred to an article he wrote about Kyari, describing him as the President’s “gatekeeper.” In the article, Kakanda highlighted the chaos that Kyari faced in his role and the strange way that those who knew him remembered him.

Kyari’s friends had said he was mischaracterized, but he never spoke in his defense.

Bashir Ahmad, an aide to President Buhari, also paid tribute to Kyari on Twitter, wishing for his soul to rest in peace and for him to be elevated among the guided.

Ayo Akanji, a Twitter user, remembered Kyari as loyal, selfless, and fiercely protective of the President.

Kyari’s death was a significant loss to Buhari’s administration, as he played a critical role in the government’s decision-making process.

He was seen as one of the President’s closest advisors and was responsible for managing communication between Buhari and other government officials.
