Senator Dino Melaye, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, has emerged as the winner of the party’s primary election.

Melaye shared the official results on his Twitter handle, revealing that he scored 313 votes, while his closest rival, Idoko Ilonah, received 124 votes.

The returning officer had earlier declared Melaye as the winner of the PDP primaries on Sunday.

On Tuesday, Melaye expressed his gratitude to God for the victory, posting a picture of the result sheet on social media with the caption, “Only God could have done this. To God alone be the glory. Result of Kogi State PDP Governorship primary election.”

The Kogi State PDP primary election was conducted peacefully with no reports of violence or irregularities.

Over 2,000 delegates from across the state participated in the exercise, which was aimed at selecting the party’s flagbearer for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

Reacting to his victory, Melaye expressed his appreciation to the delegates and members of the party for their support.

He promised to work hard to ensure the victory of the PDP in the upcoming election.

“I am grateful to the Almighty God and to all the delegates and members of our great party who have shown their faith in me by electing me as the flag bearer of the PDP in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Kogi State,” Melaye wrote on his social media account.

Melaye also thanked the leadership of the PDP for providing a level playing field for all aspirants and described the primary election as free and fair.

“I want to thank the leadership of our great party for providing a level playing field for all aspirants in the primary election. The conduct of the exercise was transparent, free and fair, and I commend all the contestants for their sportsmanship,” he added.
