On May 26, 2023, a Makurdi High Court led by Chief Judge Justice Maurice Ikpambese will announce its decision regarding the removal of Dr Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The lawsuit was filed by PDP member Conrad Utaan after Dr Ayu was suspended by the Igyorov Ward Executive Committee following a vote of no confidence.
During the hearing, Dr Ayu’s lawyer objected to the court’s jurisdiction, claiming that the issue was an internal party affair and that the plaintiff did not use the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanism before going to court.
However, Mr Utaan’s counsel argued that the matter was not an internal affair of a political party and cited judicial precedents to support their position.
After hearing both sides, Justice Ikpambese scheduled the judgement for May 26, 2023.
