The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved a downward review of electricity tariff for band ‘A’ customers.
Following this approval, Ikeja Electric Distribution Company has announced a reduction in electricity tariff for customers on band ‘A’.
The new tariff will be N206.80/kWh, down from the previous rate of N225/kWh as ordered by NERC. Customers in band ‘A’ can expect to pay the revised tariff, while customers in other categories will continue to pay the same rates. The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has also implemented the downward review of tariff for band ‘A’ customers in its coverage territory.
This review is in line with the directive from NERC. In response to protests by electricity consumers over tariff increase, the National Assembly has directed NERC to intervene.
The revised tariff will be effective from May 4. Prepaid meter users will experience the new tariff when they vend in May, while post-paid customers will see the revised tariff reflected in their end-of-month electricity bills.
Note that the tariffs for band ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’, and ‘E’ remain unchanged.
IBEDC remains committed to providing quality and improved service across its franchise. Under the approved review, band ‘A’ customers, who receive a minimum of 20 hours of electricity supply daily, will now pay N206.80/kWh.
This tariff revision is aimed at ensuring fair and affordable electricity rates for consumers. The revised tariff for band ‘A’ feeders will be effective from May 6, and customers can expect a continued availability of electricity supply for 20-24 hours daily.
Tariffs for band ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’, and ‘E’ remain unaffected by this review.
