Eddie Murphy made reference to the infamous slap at the 2022 Oscars by Will Smith as he accepted a top award at the Golden Globes.
Presenting Murphy with the coveted Cecil B DeMille Award were fellow comedian Tracy Morgan and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Accepting the award, Murphy said: “I want to let you know that there is a definitive blueprint that you can follow to achieve success, prosperity, longevity, and peace of mind. Pay your taxes. Mind your business, and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out of your mouth!”
This was in reference to last year’s incident where Smith stormed the stage and slapped Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
After apologizing for his outburst, Smith was banned from all Academy events for 10 years.
The Cecil B DeMille Award is presented to those who have made outstanding contributions to entertainment.
Past recipients include celebrities such as Jane Fonda, George Clooney, Audrey Hepburn, Harrison Ford and Tom Hanks.
