In a move that’s sure to light up the lives of its customers, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has announced the distribution of free prepaid meters to Band A customers within its service areas.
This initiative, part of the Federal Government’s Meter Acquisition Fund (MAF) scheme, aims to replace faulty meters and transition postpaid customers to the more efficient prepaid system.
EKEDC’s General Manager of Corporate Communications, Babatunde Lasaki, emphasized the company’s commitment to metering eligible customers within a 60-day project timeline.
He encouraged Band A customers with outdated or malfunctioning meters to apply for a free replacement through the company’s website.
Who’s in Band A?
For those wondering if they qualify, Band A customers are typically those who receive a minimum of 20 hours of electricity supply daily.
Areas under EKEDC’s coverage include Agbara, Ajah, Apapa, Festac, Ibeju, Ijora, Lagos Island, Lekki, Mushin, Ojo, Orile, and Ajele.
This move is part of EKEDC’s broader strategy to bridge the metering gap. The company has set an ambitious goal to meter up to 600,000 customers over the next five years, aiming to install 120,000 meters annually.
How to Get Your Free Meter
To apply for the free meter, customers should visit EKEDC’s official website and complete the application form.
The company has reiterated that the metering under this program is entirely free, and customers should not pay any fees to staff or partners for the meters.
